I thought I should begin this blog by giving any readers a little info on my background. My name is Brad Shupe and I grew up here on Long Island in Massapequa, part of the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County. I am currently employed in our community as a Reference Librarian in charge of Local History materials and actively involved with the Mastic Peninsula Historical Society.
My interest in history really began about 14 years ago as I began my employment and worked along side Mrs. Linda Knel, formerly in charge of the history collections, in digitizing and providing presentations of materials for our residents.
This site will be dedicated to sharing facts and stories of our areas history as they come across my desk. I will from time to time post links to work projects completed either at the Mastic Peninsula Historical Societies website as well as the Mastics Moriches Shirley Library local history pages.
Also, I encourage anyone who would like to become a contributor to join me in posting anything having to do with our areas history. So with that, lets let this journey begin, and I look forward to making our past come alive again.
All the best,
